The foundation’s Church and Community Partnership (CCP) have been involved in a range of projects since Jan 2008. One such project is the potential re-ordering of the Holy Trinity church at Hagworthingham.

The historic Norman 11th century building has experienced many changes in its history. It was extensively rebuilt by Louth architect James Fowler in 1859 only to partially collapse in 1972. The building now finds itself at a turning point in both its own history and that of its surrounding community. The demands of a 21st community are varied and wide ranging, the traditional hub of Hagworthingham village is once again set to step forward and reinvent itself a way that fulfils the needs of its current community whilst not compromising itself or the environment for future generations.

The project has looked at defining community need through innovative means with a view to minimising the community’s CO2 emissions whilst maintaining its cultural heritage. The team have also focused on future proofing church infrastructure by utilising waste land in its immediate vicinity for a car/bike park. This has led to tree, bat and ecological surveys being executed for the area, setting the church in a valued and understood context.

Dockside Regeneration

We are managing “Fair Share”. It is an initiative by The Big Lottery to ensure every area in the Country receives its fair share of lottery funding. We will be distributing £865,000 over ten years to 2013.

A Panel made up of representatives from local businesses, voluntary and community organisations and statutory bodies has been recruited to oversee the process and make recommendations for funding. Local priorities include supporting infrastructure support, community development projects and supporting community businesses/social enterprise.

To date we have funded two Community Development Worker posts; Project Director and Co-Ordinator for a homeless charity; self improvement courses for hard to reach young people; re-location costs for a furniture recycling project; production of a community newsletter (see attached); handyman scheme for the local community.

Playing Fields

The Lincolnshire Playing Fields Association Grant Aid has been set up with financial support from Lincolnshire District Councils, Borough Council and the City Council to make small grants of up to £500 to voluntary and community organisations that provide play and/or sports facilities in Lincolnshire. The emphasis will be placed on initiatives that have community support, provide sport and/or play facilities and reflect a local need. Applications could be for equipment, match funding or one-off events.

The Committee made four Grants in its inaugural grant making meeting, mainly for equipment to encourage increased use of community playing fields to bring people together. One grant was awarded to repair roof damage and restrict further internal disruption and further damage.

Grassroots Grants

Grassroots Grants is a Government funding stream from the Office for the Third Sector. It is for small constituted community groups with an annual income of less than £30,000 who want to play a part in strengthening their community, bringing together people from different backgrounds to create a positive change. Grants are for a maximum of £5,000 over the lifetime of the scheme (2008-2011).

To date, over 100 applicants have been successful. Our aim is to fund projects that promote inclusive communities and equal access to all. We encourage applications that raise the profile of young people (Manby Young People Forum) or help those who are most disadvantaged or marginalised (Gainsborough Travellers, English for Newcomers). In the current economic climate, we are actively seeking out applications that benefit the hardest to reach (Lincoln Community Larder, Furnichurch, Lincoln Counselling). We encourage applications that bring communities together (Greenlands Community Centre, Bytham Woodlands Trust, Friends of Richmond Park).
